Workin’ It!

These girls are WORKIN’ IT.

I created this video last night. The music is a song called “Zukunft” by the Estonian band Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot, which I also discovered while surfing around the web last night. Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot’s newest release “Compensator For The Accelerator” is available for download for free (as in beer) on their website, which, of course, is worth an additional 100 cool points. Their cover art states:

We praise the mp3 for giving the creative mind an opportunity to unleash itself from the established hierarchies of music distribution and bypass spoonfeeding by opinion leaders.

The website also contains a .pdf download of the cover and CD art that actually folds into a sleeve that will protectively hold your newly burnt disk. Anyways, cool music, nice design, and great attitude.

The video is of Gwen Verdon (Cacoon anyone?) shaking it to a dance choreographed by her husband, the talented Bob Fosse. The original dance was choreographed to a song called “Mexican Breakfast” by Pat Williams. As you can see Gwen really knew how to move and Fosse was way ahead of his time. Seriously, did Bob Fosse invent the bootyquake? Now go rent “All That Jazz” and “Caberet”, or just watch these videos.

As a bonus, here are three additional Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot songs:
Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot – Nina Robots That Shoot Laser Beams And Stuff
Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot – The Ride Ripoff
Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot – T.A.T.U. Remix

Artifacting Redesign

So here it is.

After much toil and trouble, Artifacting.com has a new look.

There is still a lot of work to be done. There are a ton of new features I need to implement and a lot of ideas I still have floating around in my head, but for now, this is what you get. There is a lot of new stuff going on here so click around and see what you can find and let me know what you think. I’ll be typing up a few entries discussing features you may have overlooked as well as features that are added as I implement them. In the meantime, have fun, let me know if you run into any problems or have trouble getting anything to work.

Enjoy!

(Naked) Lawn Ornaments

My girlfriend hardly ever reads this blog. She knows about it. But I think the stuff I post here has little or no interest to her. I believe she read a lot of the old stuff when we first started dating, but none of it was as juicy as she had hoped it would be. In fact, I don’t think I even have any old girlfriend pictures on here. I mean, that’s what you’re looking for when you sneak through your significant others stuff, isnt it? Anyway, I think she only stops by once a month just to make sure I didn’t post those nakie pictures of us.

When we had the big storm last December she stomped out in the middle of the night, during the heavy snowfall and took pictures of our lawn ornaments – the ladybug, the funky flamingo, and the glowing orb. When she came back inside she handed me the camera and said, “Check it out, it’s for your blog”. I figured since she just came back inside from a blizzard, the pictures weren’t the nudies I was hoping for. They are, however, the first girlfriend contributed entry, so for that you should be thankful, because if she reads this, I’m guessing it’ll probably be the last. Enjoy.

If you’re like most people, you’ve probably heard of the French New Wave or Dogme95, but when asked at a party to explain what they are or to name more than a couple of films, you may struggle a little bit. Well, not anymore.

Loretta Lux takes photographs of children that are almost as charming as they are creepy. Her site is worth a look.

This amazing timeline, of nearly everthing, includes such factors as sunspots, population, popular music, major human events, epochs, war, and politcs among many others. It’s a visual representation of humanity that fits on one page. I’d love to have a poster of this in my office.

In the “Disembodied Cuisine” art project, they attempt to grow frog skeletal muscle over biopolymer for potential food consumption. A biopsy is be taken from an animal which will continue to live and be displayed in the gallery along side the growing “steak”. This installation will culminate in a “feast”. The idea and research into this project began in Harvard in 2000. The first steak they have grown was made out of pre-natal sheep cells (skeletal muscle). We used cells harvested as part of research into tissue engineering techniques in utero. The steak was grown from an animal that was not yet born.

Medianeras (party walls) is the Spanish word for the wall that separates two buildings regardless of whether one of them has been knocked down or not. Medianeras are quite haunting, like the ghost of a room, leaving behind the sings of life now moved on.

Being poor is knowing exactly how much everything costs. If you’re ever find yourself at the grocery store complaining because the guy in front of you at the “15 item” cash register line has 17 items, come home and read this so that you can at least be glad you were in line with a 1/2 gallon of milk and a hershey bar.

Many of you already know Bukowski is one of my favorites. In celebration of his birthday today, I’m linking to a James P Johnson’s astonishing mix of Charles Bukowski’s “Genius Of The Crowd” with Gwyneth Walker’s “An American Concerto: A Burst of Energy”. This is the best thing I’ve seen all day James, and I’ve seen a lot.

Despite being neither hip nor erotic I still have a soft spot (probably right near the funny bone) for hipsterotica.

During spring in Denmark, at approximately one half an hour before sunset, flocks of more than a million European starlings (sturnus vulgaris) join in the incredible formations that look like flying schools of fish. This phenomenon is called Black Sun (in Denmark), and can be witnessed in early spring throughout the marshlands of western Denmark.

There were Orgasmatrons in Woddy Allen’s terrrible movie “Sleeper” and on Motorhead albums, but i think the best one (a probably most likely to actually induce an orgasm) has to be Dominic Wilcox’s Orgasmatron 3000

Before Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was published in 1964 Roald Dahl pared down his cast of characters. Last to go was Miranda Piker and her chapter has appeared only once — in mirror script. Here, for the first time, we publish her comeuppance the right way round.
